At a recent Pastoral Excellence Network event in Columbus with 70 pastors, we talked about how easy it is to move to the place of resignation and murmur, “There is nothing we can do, so why even try.”

On the night of the party, the planners introduced the theme of the party: “ordaining moments.”

I said I was particularly excited about some positive research on clergy peer groups. He shook his head and said, “Well that’s a surprise—that’s not my experience.” He went on to describe how he and some fellow bishops were required to meet as a peer group.

  • In memoriam

Sue was to have co-directed the Pastoral Excellence Network with longtime colleague and friend Chris Braudaway-Bauman. Sue suffered a recurrence of cancer which took her life on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2013.
